Mallacoota District Health and Support Service Inc (MDHSS) has been operating in the Mallacoota and surrounding area for over thirty years. MDHSS provides a comprehensive range of health and support services to the communities of Mallacoota, Gipsy Point, Genoa and surrounding districts.

MDHSS accesses the expertise of a range of health professionals including: podiatrist, dietitian, maternal and child health nurse, speech therapist, occupational therapist, continence and stoma advisor, women's health nurse, psychologist and psychiatrist from outlying areas. Every month MDHSS organises Rural Air Flight Services (RAFS) flights into Mallacoota that bring specialist health professionals who service the needs of the community.

MDHSS works closely with the community, formally through the Community Reference Group but also through representation on other community committees. MDHSS has a staff of 37 people and is further supported by some 50 volunteers from the community. MDHSS offers 46 programs from a mix of 10 State and Federally funded sources. MDHSS is a not-for-profit organisation.

MDHSS is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of the whole community. MDHSS is responsive to national and state health promotional policies and works in partnership with other services. Health promotion is an integral component of all activities.

MDHSS staff can assist you in accessing a range of services which best meet your individual needs. You can telephone MDHSS on (03) 5158 0243 between the hours of 8.30 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday to make an appointment. Referrals are accepted from all sources including self-referral. Staff will ensure that referrals are received from, or made to other services, will be acted upon in a timely manner.

Quality Management - MDHSS was reaccredited in July 2008. Accreditation is awarded every 3 years. The accreditation process endorses MDHSS staff achievements for the high quality of service and care provided to clients.

QICSA accreditation certifies that the organisation has met the relevant standards and is participating in the program to build continuous quality improvement. MDHSS falls under the Health and Community Services Core Module and the Integrated Health Services (IHS) Standards Module. 

Health and Community Services Core Module - This Core Module comprises 17 Standards on subjects that are common to all human services organisations, divided into three groupings:

  • building quality organisations
  • providing quality services and programs
  • sustaining quality external relationships

Integrated Health Services (IHS) Standards Module - The IHS Module is for services that combine and integrate primary health and community services, with residential services: hospital or aged care or both. There are 5 Standards concerned with systems integration, assessment and care, early identification and integration promoting health and wellbeing, and records.
