About Us

Mallacoota District Health and Support Service (MDHSS) has been operating in the Mallacoota and surrounding area for over thirty years. MDHSS provides a comprehensive range of health and support services to the communities of Mallacoota, Gipsy Point, Genoa and surrounding districts.

Mallacoota is a small township in Far East Gippsland. Despite its remote location, the town is fortunate to have a medical practice, pharmacy, ambulance station, TAFE Outreach Centre, P-12 College and police station. MDHSS manages the Mallacoota Health Centre (including the Mallacoota Dental Clinic). In addition, MDHS provides a broad range of social and community programs and services. As Mallacoota is isolated from many health and social services, the breadth of programs and services offered by MDHSS is critical to the community.

MDHSS is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of the whole community. The organisation is responsive to national and state health promotional policies and works in partnership with other services. Health promotion is an integral component of all activities.

MDHSS works closely with the community, formally through the Community Reference Group, but also through representation on other community committees. The staff comprises 40 people and is further supported by some 50 volunteers from the community. MDHSS offers 46 programs from a mix of 11 State and Federally funded sources. MDHSS is a not-for-profit organisation. Click here to view the MDHSS Organisational Chart. This chart displays the administrative and functional structure of MDHSS.

Services provided include a wide range of Health Services, Social Services and Community Services. These are augmented by visiting specialists from NSW and Victoria. Click here to view the MDHSS Operations Chart, which provides an overview of MDHSS services. MDHSS staff can assist you in accessing a range of services which best meet your individual needs. Referrals are accepted from all sources including self-referral. Staff will ensure that referrals received from, or made to other services, will be acted upon in a timely manner.

Quality Management - MDHSS was reaccredited in July 2008. Accreditation is awarded by Quality Improvement & Community Services Accreditation (QICSA) every 3 years. The accreditation process endorses MDHSS staff achievements for the high quality of service and care provided to clients. QICSA accreditation certifies that the organisation has met the relevant standards and is participating in the program to build continuous quality improvement.
